This Saturday at Black & Tan Hall, the Heritage Ba This Saturday at Black & Tan Hall, the Heritage Ball will feature the incredible talents of Ben Hunter, Joe Seamons, and Jed Crisologo. Through their performances, these musicians bring to life the deep connection between music, history, and culture, creating an evening you won’t forget. Ben Hunter & Joe Seamons: This award-winning duo merges the traditions of blues, folk, and roots music with a modern lens. As co-founders of The Rhapsody Project, they’ve built a space where music education celebrates heritage and self-discovery. Joe shares, “We started The Rhapsody Project to give students a music education grounded in community and history, not just technique. It inspired me to explore my own heritage, and today we pass on that work to new generations of musicians.” Jed Crisologo: Jed’s soulful folk-rock sound explores themes of love, identity, and belonging. He reflects on his start with The Rhapsody Project in 2020: “I joined a Face the Music cohort during a time when I was navigating predominantly white spaces in folk music. The cohort felt like a book club where everyone understood what it meant to be a person of color in that world. That experience shaped how I approach these conversations today.” Now a teaching artist, Jed is excited to explore his blues heritage at the Ball, saying, “We’re diving into some Jimi Hendrix, and we’re gonna shred the loud song!” 🎟️ Tickets are almost sold out! This Saturday at Black & Tan Hall, the Heritage Ba This Saturday at Black & Tan Hall, the Heritage Ball will celebrate the stories that connect us. With incredible performances by Lady A and Briar, this evening will blend the soul of music with the richness of culture and history. Here’s a look at the artists who will make this evening magical. - Lady A’s voice carries the weight of history, the joy of celebration, and the power of resilience. Known as the Pacific Northwest’s “Queen of Soul,” she’s been a fixture in the music scene since she was five years old. Her soulful blend of blues, gospel, funk, and soul has graced countless stages, and albums like BlueZ in the Key of Me and Just Bein’ Me showcase her extraordinary talent and deep connection to the roots of American music.But Lady A isn’t just about the music. As a lead teaching artist of The Rhapsody Project, she is committed to mentoring the next generation and educating others about the origins and cultural significance of Black American music. When asked what she hopes to bring to the Ball, she said, “I want to remind people where their music comes from. If I can connect just one person to the legacy of this music and the shoulders it was built upon, then I’ve done my job.” - Briar’s music feels like stepping into another era while uncovering a story you’ve never heard before. As a vocalist and ukulele player, she blends vintage jazz and blues with original compositions inspired by her heritage as a Black woman from rural Chimacum, Washington. Every song she performs is rich with narrative, shining a light on overlooked histories and personal truths. Her journey with The Rhapsody Project began at the Hillman City Collaboratory, where she found a welcoming and inspiring community. “It was so easy to fit in—no questioning—and it was a really welcoming space,” she reflects. “TRP gave me trajectory for the next ten years of life. TRP is my life’s work.” Now, as a leader and educator for the project, Briar helps others find their voices, just as she found hers. “Through my music and heritage, I hope to help people find their stories and see the beauty in their own voices,” she shared. - 🎟️Purchase tickets for The Heritage Ball in our bio.
