Guitar Hangs

SUMMER SCHEDULE NOW LIVE

Sessions to play and learn guitar together.

Jam session meets music lesson.

Come hang with us!

The Guitar Hang is a casual and relaxed learning experience for all abilities of guitar and bass guitar players, mainly serving early beginners to intermediate players. Not only is it a group music lesson, it’s also a jam session.

We’ll explore blues, jazz, folk and American roots music, uniquely weaving basic music theory concepts, interactive song learning, and social music playing, with an emphasis on improvisation and soloing. Through the selected repertoire, you’ll learn hidden or obscure stories of musicians and artists of color who greatly influenced American popular music, as well as the historical and social context of each song and composer.

Weekly Sessions resume with Fall Programming on Wednesday, September 17th, and run through November 19th, 4-6 pm.

About Mariah

Mariah Roberson is a multi-instrumentalist who studies and practices blues, jazz, and popular American music. She started with classical and jazz cello in elementary school, and continued to pursue those passions at Washington Middle School.

In 2017, a teacher referred her to The Rhapsody Project, where she’s been a key part of the community ever since.

About Shane

Fresh from Bozeman, Montana by way of Ecuador, Shane brings a world of sound to The Rhapsody Project. A classically trained French Horn player turned guitar-loving songwriter, he’s taught in public schools, summer camps, and arts nonprofits—guiding students from first notes to fully-produced albums. Shane’s artistry blends Western tonal theory with creative tools like Augusto Boal’s Theater of the Oppressed, making music education hands-on, community-centered, and deeply human. His projects range from his self-produced EP shan/m/e to recording Indigenous stories and songs in rural Ecuador.
