Teaching Artist Training

Training and onboarding for musicians to teach with Rhapsody

Learn to deliver music & heritage education.

These Teaching Artist Training Sessions provide local youth (ages 25 and under) with opportunities to develop their skills as both players & teachers of music and heritage. By tapping into the generosity of local, professional musicians who have decades of experience, this program develops and refines the technical knowledge of how to learn – and also teach – music. By complementing these trainings with lessons from Rhapsody’s Layers of Heritage framework, each student will also gain a deeper knowledge and grounding in the cultural heritage that they carry. Select, public trainings hosted will provide Professional Development to all manner of teaching artists, providing young people opportunities to grow alongside professional artists from throughout King County.

12 selected scholarship applicants will each be awarded $1200 stipends to undergo the 40 hours of trainings offered through this program.

Musicians and artists of all ages are offered the option of auditing the training sessions for free, but hands-on instruction will be focused on the 12 youth selected for scholarships.

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from Seattle’s Department of Neighborhoods.
